The shameless effort to block clean energy

Florida’s Republican led state Legislature, backed by powerful electric utility companies, recently passed SB 1128 and HB 919 that would block local progress on clean energy production.

From worsening “red tide” algal blooms, rising sea levels and neighborhood flooding, to more severe weather events including hurricanes, most of us have personally felt the effects of climate change. Nearly 70 percent of Floridians want to see their cities help tackle this existential threat.1 That’s why 11 Florida cities have committed to transitioning to 100 percent clean, renewable energy.2

Meanwhile, Florida’s Republican led state Legislature, backed by powerful electric utility companies, recently passed SB 1128 and HB 919 that block local progress. If these bills are signed into law, local governments will be stopped from transitioning to 100 percent clean energy and stripped of an essential tool for confronting the climate crisis.

Join us in calling on Gov. DeSantis to veto anti-clean energy bills.

SB 1128 and HB 919 would strip local control of energy sources, reversing progress on 100 percent renewable commitments and sidelining the movement to adopt clean, renewable energy powered buildings and vehicles in Florida.

The best time to transition off of fossil fuels was decades ago. The second best time is right now. Use your voice to make sure we continue to give local governments the tools they need to fight climate change.

Take action to make sure Florida communities have control over energy decisions.

For a brighter future,

Mark and the Progress Florida Team
